ONE: GILMORE GIRLS IS COMING TO NETFLIX

I can’t contain my excitement over Gilmore Girl coming to Netflix. And when is a better time than the Thanksgiving holiday weekend? NOTHING. I am dying waiting for November 25th to arrive. While everyone else is out shopping for Black Friday deals, I will be curled up on my couch with some wine or coffee and my second, possibly third, helping of turkey.

Yes, this is an ad and the major goal is to sell something. However, it is still spot on in its message. I’m not a mom, but I work as VA for a motherhood life coach, so I’ve become very aware of motherhood struggles.

August Goals

It’s August. Saying that is unbelievable. Where has summer gone? I return to school in 22 days. 22 days, people! I’m excited about classes and seeing my friends, but also sad to lose the freedom of school. I’m thinking about going back to school, but also about my August goals and whether I can complete them in 22 days.

July was a busy month for me. I began working with a new client in June and in July we really got into the swing of things. She launched a new program and was expecting a baby (who was born on July 31st) so we had a lot to get done before her maternity leave. Along with client work I’ve been busy catching up with things at home and preparing to go back to school. I enjoy school and learning, but I also really enjoy organizing for school! Let’s take a look at my July goals!

 

JULY GOALS

  1. Begin work on new website for Modern Laine.
  2. Start my business website.
  3. Work on Southern Charm edits.

Organized Chaos: Color Coding My Day Planner

Color coding is a major part of my organization scheme. My iCal calendars are color coded, my folders in OneNote, my psychical day planner and my school assignment tracker are all color coded. I’m so organized (I wish) that my physical day planner colors match my iCal colors. I feel at ease knowing that a certain color will always mean a certain group of tasks. Let’s talk more about how I use color coding to organize my planners!

 

How To Start Color Coding

Color coding is easy to do. All you need is a blank piece of paper and a handful (at least 5) pens in different colors. Try to avoid from black pens, because what fun would that be? The point of color coding is to make it fun and help your brain to process the information it is taking in. I found a great Fast Company article on this topic.

I can’t believe that it’d July already! The summer season has officially started and we’ve been having super hot temps here in Charleston, but the academic summer is halfway over. As of today, I have 49 days until I return to school. That isn’t long at all, especially when you have to buy textbooks and school supplies! Today I’m going to share my goals for July, focusing on the things I wish to accomplish prior to returning to school.

Before I go into my July goals, let’s take a look at my goals for June.

JUNE GOALS

  1. Start plotting my Gothic novel/short story.
  2. Blog more.
  3. Start reading for my fall class. (overachieving nerd, check!).
  4. Work on my edits for Southern Charm.
  5. Work on my time management and organization skills.

I did attempt to plot out my Gothic idea and for now it will still be a simple paragraph with character names. I didn’t blog as much as I want to during June and I didn’t begin reading for fall classes yet, mainly because I haven’t been

Here are four things I am excited about this week!

ONE: Highlights of iOS 10

Monday was the start of Apple’s 27th Annual WWDC and this year’s opening was awesome! The conference was attended by 120 people under the age of 18. The youngest was a nine year old girl, which is amazing because of her age!

They announced many exciting new updates to tvOS, macOS, watchOS and iOS 10. Of course, I was most excited about iOS 10 and macOS. It makes me super excited to upgrade my iPhone at the end of the year. I loved the video Apple made about some of the cool features in iOS 10.

TWO: Vera Bradley Adds New Collegiate Prints 

Today Vera Bradley announced the new additions to their collegiate collection. I’m super excited because they added the University of South Carolina. Go Gamecocks!! These will make great gifts for all the Gamecock fans I know and for the Clemson

My First Experiences With Long Distance Friendships

I attended an online public school for high school and that’s where I first experienced the joy of having friends who you can’t see everyday. We would text each other all day and sit on Yahoo! Messenger all night. Somehow it was easier to form a bond with them than it had ever been with the friends I saw all the time. I made friends all over the country and I’m still close with a few of them.

So far, I’ve completed a short 6 scene script and picked up a new client for my business! That’s definitely a sign of progress. I’m going to continue working on my personal goals, as well as some extra ones for June. Here are some additional goals for June.

Life With Laine: Graduation Edition

GRADUATION

My younger brother graduated from high school last weekend. We’re a homeschool family, so the graduation was a pretty small. Just seven graduates! We enjoyed a lovely ceremony and then went to Olive Garden for a late lunch. It was definitely an exciting day!

With graduation and possible new clients, we’ve been writing a lot of thank you notes. I have a friend who recently got married and she’s busy working on her thank you notes. She has about 100 thank you notes to write, but at least ettiequte says she has a few months to send them out! For the Love of Books: Summer Reading

Summer is here, which means more time for binge watching on Hulu and Netflix as well as catching up on some summer reading My summer reading list is a mix of non-fiction, young adult, mystery, new adult and more. I like a variety of genres, just as I like a variety of TV shows and movies. It keeps me from getting bored. It takes a lot for me to really get into a book, so I’m hoping that I’ll enjoy all of these books enough to finish them.

 

To pick the books I want to read this summer I scrolled through my To Read list on Goodreads. I looked for the ones I was most excited about or intrigued by, as well as which ones I have on my Kindle app or physical bookshelf that I’ve been wanting to read. I had trouble deciding how many books I wanted to try to read this summer. I settled on fifteen because it felt reachable and would make a dent in
